1. CONFERENCE INFORMATION

Outline
 The First International Conference on Green & Sustainable Chemistry, Tokyo (GSC TOKYO 2003), organized by Green & Sustainable Chemistry Network, Japan (GSCN ) will be held on March 13-15, 2003, at the International Conference Center of Waseda University in Tokyo. This Conference will be the continuation of the 1st and 2nd GSC Symposia held in Japan and will consist of invited presentations, poster papers and exhibitions.
 This Conference aims at promoting the activities of Green & Sustainable Chemistry (GSC) worldwide.
The main themes of the Conference will be:
1. The status quo of GSC activities in industry.
2. Collaborations among academia, government and industry for GSC
3. Metrics for GSC
4. New approaches to products & processes for GSC
5. Education to promote GSC

Reception
 Reception will be held at CHINZAN-SO, changed from the original announcement namely
 RIHGA ROYAL HOTEL TOKYO,  on Friday, March 14 from 18:30 to 20:30. All the regular registered participants and their accompanied persons are invited. Additional payment is required for Student registration.

Official Language
 English. Simultaneous translation between English and Japanese will be provided in Ibuka Hall.

Registration
 Participants including those who wish to present a poster presentation are invited to complete and return the Registration and Hotel Application Form by internet (on-line) except credit card information.
Regular Registration Fee: On and before January 31, 2003: JPY25,000
On and after February 1, 2003: JPY30,000
Student Registration Fee: On and before January 31, 2003:   JPY3,000
On and after February 1, 2003:   JPY5,000
If student wishes to attend the Reception, add JPY7,000 for both cases.

Payment
 Payment can be made by bank transfer or by credit card. Please specify your choice of payment method at the time of application. All payments must be made in Japanese Yen.
 
If you chose a CREDIT CARD as the payment method and you do not wish to send your card information by internet, please send your card information using the attached Fax Form (in PDF) by FAX.

Cancellations and refunds
 Registration cancellations by letter or fax, received by the secretariat will be refunded after April 1, 2003 as follows:

Notice by January 31, 2003 100% minus remittance fee
Notice between February 1 and 28, 2003   50% minus remittance fee
Notice on or after March 1, 2003     0%

2. POSTER PRESENTATION

 Participants who wish to present a poster are requested to submit a one-page extended abstract to the secretariat and its elecronic copy by e-mail to:info@gscn.net , no later than December 14, 2002. The text should be 1.5 line spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font on A4 (210 mm x 294 mm) or 8”x11” size paper. The sheet must have 25 mm margins all around. The title should appear in bold capital letters, centered at the top of the page. Author(s) and affiliation(s) should be placed below the title, with the name of the presenting author underlined, followed by a full address with phone number, facsimile number and E-mail address. The text should be compiled into two columns as is shown in "Abstruct Example". All submitted posters for presentation are to be reviewed by the program committee.
 Notice for acceptance will be sent to the applicant by January 15, 2003.

2.1 PUBLICATION
 "Green Chemistry"of RSC, London is the official journal for papers & posters presented at GSC TOKYO 2003. The authors are encouraged to register their intention to submit papers to "Green Chemistry" and bring the papers to GSC TOKYO 2003. Solicited papers based on oral or poster presentations will be processed as primary refereed papers, following normal peer review. Papers should be submitted in the format laid out in the "Instructions to Authors" which can be accessible at the web site: Royal Society of Chemistry. The instruction will also be supplied to all presenters submitting abstracts by RSC. The final deadline will be no more than four weeks later. The number of papers published from this Conference may be limited by the Editorial Board.

3. EXHIBITION
 Desk top exhibition will be held on the third floor of the International Conference Center of Waseda Univesity. Exhibitions of the company’s/affiliate’s activities such as Green Sustainable Chemistry, Responsible Care etc. by academia, industries, governments and organizations are invited.
Size of the exhibition desk is: 1.8 m (W) / 0.6 m (D).
Wall height behind the desk is: 2.1 m.
Electricity, light, and name board will be provided by Scretariat.
Exhibition Guidance Book will be made and delivered to the attendants.

Exhibition fee JPY100,000 for industries
JPY50,000 for academia, NPO's
If you have an intention to have an exhibition desk, please contact the Secretaiat.
Written application should be made to Secretariat no later than October 31, 2002
 If applications exceed the total number of desk, application will be closed at that time. Exhibition fee should be paid according to an invoice issued by Secretariat by the end of January 2003, otherwise application will be cancelled automatically.

4. HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

Official Travel Agency
 Nippon Travel Agency Co., Ltd. (NTA) has been appointed the official travel agency for GSC Tokyo 2003.
 Nippon Travel Agency (NTA) has secured a sufficient number of rooms in a variety of hotels for the period of the Conference, taking into consideration the needs and budgets of the participants. A special discount rate is being offered to conference participants; however, these special rates will not apply to participants making reservations directly with the hotel. Reservations will be on a first-come- first-served basis. If the hotel of your first choice is not available, we will reserve your next choice. Deadline for Hotel Application is January 31, 2003.

 Upon the receipt of your Hotel Application, Nippon Travel Agency will send you Confirmation & Invoice stating the total amount due.
 
Hotel reservations are confirmed when hotel charges are paid in full. Credit card payments for hotel charges will be deducted in full by Nippon Travel Agency prior to check-in date. Regular hotel charges may appy to on-site payment at the hotel.

 If you choose to pay both registration fee and hotel charges by credit card, the total amount will be charged to your credit card prior to the conference.

Cancellation Policy
 In the event of a cancellation of hotel reservations, written notification should be sent to Nippon Travel Agency (NTA). Your payment will be refunded after deducting the following cancellation charges.

Cancellation charge for Hotel Accommodation
When the notification is received:
14 days before the first night of stay:     0% but bank charge will be reduced.
4 to 13 days before the first night of stay:   30% of daily room rate per room
Less than 3 days before the first night of stay:   50% of daily room rate per room
No notice given: 100% of daily room rate per room

5. GENERAL INFORMATION
HOST CITY TOKYO
 Tokyo is the capital of Japan and the center of national administration, education and finance. Tokyo is a highly developed metropolis, similar to New York and London. Tokyo Bay opens to the east and the Pacific Ocean; the fertile Kanto Plain lies on the north side of Tokyo. It has a population of 12.3 million spanning 2,114 sq. km. As people continue to flow into the city, surrounding cities and towns are changing into teeming residential areas.
Tokyo is endowed with every modern convenience, enabling overseas visitors to feel at ease. It serves as the hub of a nationwide transportation system with an extensive network of urban trains and subways crisscrossing the city.

ACCESS TO CENTRAL TOKYO FROM NEW TOKYO (NARITA) INT’L AIRPORT
 Three main routes are available from New TOKYO (Narita) Int'l airport to the center of Tokyo. Taxi service is also available and its charge to the center of Tokyo is around JPY20,000.

-1. By Narita Express Train
 Take JR Narita Express Train (NEX) from the basement of the airport building to Tokyo Central, Shinjuku and Ikebukuro stations. Frequency is every 30 minutes. The travel time is about 1 hour and fare is JPY2,940 to Tokyo central station, JPY3,110 to Shinjuku and Ikebukuro stations.
-2. By Keisei Skyliner (Express train)
 Take Keisei Skyliner from the basement of the airport building to Ueno Station departing every 40 minutes. The travel time is about 1 hour and fare is JPY1,920.
-3. By Airport Limousine Bus
 Take an Airport Limousine Bus from the bus stops in front of the arrival lobby of the airport building to Tokyo Central Station and Tokyo Air City Terminal etc. Travel time is approx. 1.5 hours and fare is JPY3,000. Direct Airport Limousine Bus service is also available to major hotels like Sunshine Prince Hotel.

PASSPORT and VISA
 All travelers entering Japan must have a valid passport. A participant requiring a visa should apply to a Japanese consular office or diplomatic mission in his or her home country prior to departure. Participants are advised to contact their local travel agencies or airline companies.

CLIMATE
 The climate in Tokyo is rather cold in March, with the average high temperatures at 11°C/ 52°F and average low temperatures at 5°C/41°F. Participants are recommended to bring warm clothing. The convention hall and all major hotels are air-conditioned.

CURRENCY
 The currency used in Japan is yen (JPY). Foreign currency or traveler's checks can be changed to yen at major banks, hotels, or airports. Only Japanese yen is accepted at stores and restaurants. It is necessary to show your passport when changing traveler's checks.
 Bills come in units of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 yen, and coins in units of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, and 500 yen.
 The approximate exchange rate for U.S.$1 is 120 Yen (as of August 2002).

CREDIT CARDS and TC's
 American Express, Diners Club, JCB, MasterCard, and VISA cards are widely accepted at hotels, department stores, shops, and restaurants.
Traveler's checks are not as popular in Japan as in some other countries. They are usually accepted only by leading banks and major hotels.

TAX and TIPPING
 A 5% sales tax applies to almost all consumer purchases and services. There is no custom of individual tipping in Japan. Instead, a service charge will be included in the bill where applicable.
